31519 SPRING NEWSLETTER 2024 Year 11 have had a very busy half term completing their second set of PPEs and attending PPE results day. The students are now on the final stretch to the beginning of GCSE exams: the 10 week countdown and final exam timetable being issued 8/3/24. If there is anything you are unsure of or require clarification on, please contact form tutors in the first instance. Supporting your Child through Exams I know some of this will seem logical but helping support your child through the last few weeks of school is essential. The following points are just a few things that can make life easier: • A health sleep routine • Nourishing meals • Plenty of water. • Creating the right environment to help your child study for their GCSEs • Establishing a workable study routine • Taking breaks On the day of the exam to help alleviate stress and to help you ace your exams, below is a list of tips for exam day to help you stay calm, focused and stressfree: • Get enough sleep in the days leading up to the exam • Don’t leave revision until the night before • Drink plenty of water and make sure you eat your breakfast/lunch • Double check you have everything you need before you leave the house • Leave the house in plenty of time • Don’t try and cram just before the exam • When in the exam hall, focus on you • Use all the time available to you • After the exam, forget about it you can’t change anything • Remember your self care. Useful Advice from Students in the Sixth Form Some useful advice from our current sixth formers about making sure you are ready: “If you haven’t already started revising, start now as the longer you leave it the more stressed you will be” “Make sure you take up any additional support you are being offered by staff” “Make sure you have a plan leading up to the exam and stick to it” “If you know you are not going to revise at home make sure you use the areas provided by school” “Make sure you are using past papers and any other resources” “Ensure that you are still making time for yourself, seeing your friends and doing the activities you enjoy” Useful Websites www.bekindtomymind.co.uk Student of the Week The following students have been student of the week this half term, which is a massive achievement. Ralph E, Taylor D, Luca B and Sammy- Jo M Key Dates for Next Half Term • Year 11 Consultation with form tutors - week beginning 15th April • Revision every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday till 4.30 in the Library • Maths Revision - Every Monday • English Revision - Every Tuesday Prom 2024 Our Student Leadership Committee has been very focused on ensuring that the 2024 Prom is the best yet, our theme this year is Manhattan Masquerade and we are all looking forward to seeing the students in their finery! Students will receive a Prom Passport and will gain points for attending revision sessions and adhering to school rules regarding punctuality and attendance. in order to qualify for Prom. More information will be sent out to parents in due course. Wellbeing We are very conscious that this is an incredibly stressful time of year for our students, we are committed to ensuring we send them off from Thornleigh in the best possible position. Therefore if students require assistance with college applications, etc, please implore them to come and speak to the year team. It is also important to mention that here at Thornleigh Salesian College the form tutor plays a very important role for our students’ journey. Therefore please contact your child’s form tutor in the first instance if you require information.
