It gave us a chance to discuss the upcoming PPE’s, work experience, revision strategies and some more information around our Sixth Form College. The PowerPoint from the evening is available on our school website. PPE’s The Year 10 PPE series will commence on the first week back after the Easter Holidays. All Year 10 students have received a PPE Preparation Booklet which has all the information they need to fully prepare for these exams. Students have also had an assembly on the do’s and don’ts when revising. Please see the table below with the highlights we discussed. REVISION A reminder – what DOES work • Creating / Using Flashcards • Mindmapping • Quizzing • Use revision tools such as websites like GCSE POD, Seneca Learning and Dr Frost Maths • Past Paper Questions - speak to class teachers to help with this. REVISION A reminder – what DOESN’T work • Simply reading through notes or books • Taking a scattergun approach • Highlighting texts (if it’s all you do!) • Re-reading • Summarising text with no understanding Work Experience Year 10 work experience week commences on the 1st July. It has been brilliant to see many of our students actively finding placements and returning their completed forms. If your child hasn’t managed to secure a placement yet then please can we ask that this becomes a priority over the coming weeks. The careers team here at Thornleigh have set the deadline for forms to be handed in by the 4th May. If you require any assistance please contact your child’s form tutor. Be Kind to My Mind Bekindtomymind is a Bolton campaign to help reduce the stigma around mental health. www.bekindtomymind.co.uk As you know, here at Thornleigh Salesian College, the form tutor plays a very important role for our students’ journey. Therefore please contact your child’s form tutor should you need any support or information.
