428 SUMMER NEWSLETTER 2026 Year 11 As we reach the end of another busy and successful academic year at Thornleigh Salesian College, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and partnership throughout the year. It has been a memorable year filled with achievements, challenges, celebrations and milestones. We are incredibly proud of all our students. GCSE Examinations A particular highlight has been the dedication shown by our Year 11 students during their GCSE examinations. Throughout the examination period, students demonstrated resilience, maturity and determination, approaching each challenge with a positive attitude and strong work ethic. We know how much preparation and effort has gone into these examinations, both in school and at home and we would like to congratulate all of our students for the way they conducted themselves. There has been a real sense of focus and perseverance across the year group, with students rising to the challenges of Key Stage 4 and continuing to build their confidence and independence. It has been fantastic to see their hard work, positive engagement, and willingness to give their best in both lessons and assessments. These qualities will serve them well as they move into Year 11, and we look forward to seeing them continue to achieve great success next year. Welcome Back We are delighted to welcome back Mrs O’Grady to the Year 10 team this term. As a longstanding and highly valued member of the Thornleigh community, Mrs O’Grady brings a wealth of experience, dedication, and care to her role. We are thrilled to have her working alongside us and know that her support and expertise will be a tremendous asset to both students and staff. We look forward to the positive impact she will continue to make with our Year 10 students. Work Experience Year 10 students had the exciting opportunity to take part in work experience - week beginning Monday 29th June. This experience was an invaluable part of their educational journey, offering them the chance to gain hands-on insight into the world of work, develop key skills such as communication, problem-solving, and teamwork, and explore potential career paths. Students secured their own placements. Thank you for supporting our young people in this process. End of Year Trip As a celebration of a successful year, we are delighted to be offering Year 10 students the opportunity to take part in our Rewards Day on 10th July. Students will be able to choose from a range of exciting activities, including a trip to Blackpool Pleasure Beach, a walk up Rivington, a cinema visit, or a variety of activities taking place in school. To be eligible to attend, students must maintain at least 97% attendance and demonstrate exemplary behaviour throughout the year. We are looking forward to recognising the hard work, commitment, and positive attitudes shown by our students and anticipate that this will be a fantastic and memorable day for everyone involved. Key Highlights for Year 10 Year 10 students have enjoyed a wide range of opportunities this year, each offering something unique and helping to create lasting memories. From celebrating our school values and community spirit on Don Bosco Day, to the incredible experiences of the Disneyland Paris and New York trips, students have had the chance to broaden their horizons both in and beyond the classroom. Rewards assemblies have recognised and celebrated students’ achievements, while the dance shows and school production have showcased the outstanding creativity, talent, and dedication of our students. These experiences have allowed students to develop confidence, build friendships, and create unforgettable moments. With so many exciting opportunities already enjoyed and plenty more still to come, it has been another fantastic year for Year 10. Final Thoughts As we come to the end of another successful academic year, we would like to thank all Year 10 students for their hard work, commitment, and positive attitude throughout the summer term. We hope they enjoy a well-deserved six-week break, taking the opportunity to rest, recharge, and spend time with family and friends.
