Our transition programme begins long before students join us in Year 7. We work in close partnership with our feeder primary schools, including our seven Catholic partner schools, to ensure every child is known as an individual and receives the support they need for a successful start. Throughout the year, our staff visit primary schools, meet with teachers, work alongside families and gather a detailed understanding of each student’s strengths, interests and any additional support they may need. This enables us to create a personalised experience that helps every child settle quickly, make new friendships and thrive from their very first day. Our extensive transition programme includes: • Open Evening for prospective families • Visits to our partner primary schools • Cross-phase meetings between primary and secondary staff • Transition Evening for parents and students • Two full Transition Days, allowing students to experience life at Thornleigh • Enhanced transition activities for students requiring additional support • Opportunities to meet key staff, tutors and fellow students before September • Ongoing support throughout Year 7 to ensure every student continues to flourish academically, socially and spiritually We believe transition is not simply an event in the summer term, but a journey that begins well before students arrive and continues throughout their first year.
