Pastoral Support
At Thornleigh Sixth Form we believe that pastoral support is a major part of your ability to succeed.
Thornleigh Sixth Form has a team who oversee the following:
- Attendance and punctuality
- UCAS applications and support
- Work experience and careers guidance
- Academic progress, coaching and interventions
- Student welfare
- Enrichment programme
- Communications with parents and stakeholders
We believe that the key professional who can have the greatest impact in the educational journey of students is the group tutor who has a key responsibility for ensuring that students:
- Understand the context of the college environment and the expectations for learning
- Are encouraged to maintain a high attendance and punctuality record
- Are equipped for the learning day and have plans for their non-contact time
- Are kept up-to-date about key priority areas
- Experience the delivery of a planned tutor time programme
- Are made aware of extracurricular opportunities and enrichment activities offered by the Sixth Form
- Are coached to reflect on phases of learning and strategies to further improve
- Are supported in the development of a CV that professionally advertises their key skills and achievements
- Are given the appropriate support to complete a UCAS application and personal statement with incremental feedback and notes to improve
- Know that their voice is heard and that a key member of staff cares for their welfare
- Are aware that there are relevant support systems in college to support their growth as young adults
