Access to the Curriculum

At Thornleigh Salesian College we provide every child with access to a broad and balanced curriculum, with a wide range of extracurricular activities which are differentiated to meet individual needs.  High quality Teaching & Learning in all subjects, results in the acquisition of knowledge for all students. Any Special Educational Need concerns are identified early and relevant support put in place to ensure all students are stretched and challenged. For more information, please see the Learning Journeys on the subject’s specific pages.

Transition

The school has a comprehensive transition programme for all Year 6 students. Any student with an EHCP or with a high level of vulnerability has additional transition meetings and transition days. The sessions allow students to familiarise themselves with key staff so they feel confident and ready to start in September.

Interventions

We offer a variety of interventions for students who require additional support alongside first quality class teaching. These include literacy based interventions such as reading, spelling and comprehension as well as programs that help meet the needs of student with Speech and Language and Social and Emotional difficulties. As we believe that each child is unique, we also organise bespoke and individualised interventions as and when is necessary. We try and ensure interventions do not impact on curriculum time and they mostly take place in registration/tutorial periods.
