Lent 2024

Lent 2024

Lent 2024 – Be More Like Jesus

In our school prayer we pray that we may be encouraged to ‘be more like Jesus today and every day.’ This Lent we will explore how we can do just that, by our prayer, fasting, and giving.

Prayer

In the Gospel, Jesus gives us the Beatitudes as a model for living a Christian life. We have adapted these teachings to help us to explore what they mean for us today.

This Lent we are called to…

  • Be more open to God – give extra time for prayer.
  • Be more compassionate towards others – put yourself in their shoes.
  • Be more humble – don’t always think about yourself or take yourself too

          seriously.

  • Be more determined to stand up for what is right – sometimes you might need somebody else to stick up for you.
  • Be more forgiving of others – we all make mistakes.
  • Be more aware of what you consume – is what you eat, watch, or share good for you?
  • Be more peaceful – choose to avoid violent words and actions.
  • Be more aware of the needs of others – put others before yourself.

During Sacred Time, we will explore these eight themes in closer detail, and commit to actions that we can do to ‘be more like Jesus’ this Lent.

Fasting

CAFOD Fast Day - Friday 15th March

This year’s CAFOD Fast Day falls during the half term holiday, so we will mark the day later in Lent. More information about this to come!

Giving

CAFOD Big Lent Walk

This Lent our school is supporting CAFOD and joining other schools around the country to help fight poverty around the world.

To raise money, students in Year 7, 8 & 9 will work together towards our target of walking a combined 1000 miles over the weeks of Lent! The RE and PE departments have paired up to facilitate a walk around the school site, and the walks will be completed during lesson time. All students are being asked to contribute just £1 to our fundraising campaign, and families can sponsor us through the linked Justgiving page.

How our fundraising will help

CAFOD is the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development, working together with communities all over the world for an to end to extreme poverty and global injustice.

Our fundraising will help hardworking people like James the fisherman in Liberia to feed his family for good.  James now has the tools and training he asked for to fish safely and sustainably. Compasses and GPS fish-tracking systems means he can find the best fishing spots and make his way home with an even bigger catch for his family.

We have chosen to support CAFOD as a way for our students to put their faith into action. By raising money together, we will be supporting our brothers and sisters around the world and living out our school mission.
