Winter Newsletter 2025

30 WINTER NEWSLETTER 2025 Dear Parents and Carers, As we reach the end of a busy and productive term in Sixth Form, we are delighted to share some of the fantastic achievements, activities and opportunities our students have taken part in. It has been a term full of academic focus, community engagement and enrichment across both Year 12 and Year 13. Year 13 UCAS Applications Our Year 13 students have been working exceptionally hard preparing for the next steps of their educational journey. Many have now begun sending off their UCAS applications to universities across the country. We are incredibly proud of their dedication and ambition, and our Sixth Form team continues to support students with personal statements, course research and interview preparation. Enrichment Programme This term, the enrichment programme has been in full swing, providing students with opportunities to grow, contribute and explore new interests outside of the classroom. For example, activities have included: community litter picking to help keep our local area clean and cared for, sports participation with students both playing in and supporting events, a student magazine which is led entirely by our budding writers, editors and creative team, the Medical Society giving aspiring doctors and healthcare professionals a space to learn and collaborate and the Fundraising Society, who have been planning charity events and raising awareness for important causes. The commitment and maturity shown by our students in these activities has been outstanding. Fun Friday Activities To help build community and offer a well-deserved break from academic pressures, we’ve continued our ‘Fun Friday’ sessions each week. Students have enjoyed a range of activities such as quizzes, karaoke and team-building games. These sessions have helped create a friendly, supportive environment and have been a wonderful way to end each week. Educational Trips and Guest Speakers Learning beyond the classroom has remained an important part of our Sixth Form experience. This term, several departments have organised guest speakers and enriching trips, including, Manchester Access Programme, Young Drivers and Passenger Safety Scheme, a crime scene investigator delivered a talk to Criminology students and a midwifery talk delivered to Medical Society students by a local midwife. Trips This term the following subjects have offered enrichment experiences in these areas: • Graphics - exploring creative and industry-based environments. • Philosophy and Ethics - engaging with real-world contexts and discussion opportunities. • Health and Social Care - visiting settings relevant to career pathways and coursework. We are pleased to share that there will be many more subject-specific trips and experiences offered throughout the year, ensuring students continue to benefit from a broad and engaging curriculum. Christmas Hamper Competition Our Sixth Form students embraced the festive spirit this year by taking part in our annual Christmas Hamper Competition. Each form group worked together to create a unique hamper filled with generous donations from students. The creativity on display was fantastic, with every hamper showcasing real effort, imagination and teamwork. The response from our students was truly heart warming - their generosity meant that each hamper was packed with high-quality items ready to be sold at our Christmas Fair. We’re incredibly proud of their enthusiasm and community spirit, which helped make this year’s event such a success.
