Winter Newsletter 2025

19 WINTER NEWSLETTER 2025 MFL Communicake Competition What another fabulous turnout for our annual ‘Communicake Competition’! As part of our Language Week celebrations, students are invited to bake a cake or a sweet treat which represents a different culture or country. We have had an overwhelming response to this and students baked some delicious goods representing a range of cultures, from Spain to Jamaica with lots of traditional Indian and Dutch desserts. We then held a bake sale at lunchtime where the cakes were sold for 50p per slice. Overall, we raised £78 which we will use to support our chosen charities. We have found it extremely difficult to judge the best bakes but we eventually found three winners for each of the following categories: Design, Taste, Sweet Treats and Most Popular. Well done and thank you to everyone for your support! International School update We are continuing to enhance our global work in supporting the International School Award from the British Council. As part of our international work, we are looking forward to starting a new project with our Salesian partner school in Barcelona and starting a new partnership with a Salesian school in Murcia. The Turing Scheme funding has supported various projects over the last 12 months from an international visit abroad to Barcelona, various curriculum enhancement trips to Smithills Farm, the Yorkshire Sculpture Museum and funding the development of school clubs and leadership groups. Alongside this, 5 of our current Year 13 students embarked upon a 2 week work experience trip to Gibraltar, where they worked alongside the Nautilus Project and the marine biologists in Gibraltar. They not only enhanced their life skills but their employability and technical knowledge. We enjoyed activities from examining marine life through snorkelling and boat trips, to lab work, beach cleans and primary summer school classes. The students were also interviewed by the local radio and press. We are forever grateful for our strong partnership with our friends at Nautilus and we are hoping to return with more students next year.
