10 SUMMER NEWSLETTER 2026 PSHE Welcome to this term’s Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) and Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) update. It has been an incredibly busy and productive year at Thornleigh Salesian College. Our curriculum continues to focus on nurturing the whole child, ensuring our students grow into well-informed, resilient and compassionate young people. Faith and Relationships: Our RSHE Curriculum At Thornleigh Salesian College, our Catholic ethos is at the heart of everything we teach. For our RSHE delivery, we proudly use the Ten:Ten Catholic Programme. This programme ensures that our curriculum is deeply rooted in a Christian understanding of the human person, focusing on: • Our personal relationships with others. • Our individual, unique relationship with God. • The statutory RSHE framework required by the Department for Education. Important Curriculum Update: We are currently in the process of updating our RSHE content to ensure full compliance with the new statutory government guidance due to come into effect in September 2026. We believe that a strong partnership between school and home is vital for effective RSHE delivery. Further information: www.pilgrimcross.org.uk Wider PSHE: Partnering with Pol-Ed For the wider delivery of our PSHE curriculum, we use Pol-Ed, an educational programme recommended to us by Bolton Council. Both our teaching staff and students are finding these resources incredibly engaging and interesting. Because the curriculum is created with input from the police, the sessions are regularly updated to ensure they are completely up-to-date regarding statistics, specific focus areas and the real-world topics that our young people need to understand to stay safe and make informed choices. You can find the parent section here: www.pol-ed.co.uk/audiences/parents/homes PSHE Club: Creativity at Break Our Wednesday lunchtime PSHE Club has been a massive hit this year! Meeting every Wednesday during breaktime, students from various year groups have come together to unwind, build friendships and express themselves through hands-on crafting. Some of our favourite creations this year have included: • Clay “Jellycat” Marshmallows and miniature clay vegetables. • Seed planting to learn about sustainability and growth. • Intricate origami projects. • Building characters using colourful pipe cleaners. It has provided a wonderful, calm space for students to talk, destress and collaborate outside of a formal classroom setting.
