426 SUMMER NEWSLETTER 2025 PHYSICALEDUCATION SEND Students Shine at Panathlon Challenge in Bolton On Wednesday 11th June, a group of SEND students enjoyed a fun and inclusive day out as they took part in the Panathlon Challenge held at Hollywood Bowl in Bolton. The event brought together young people from two Salesians schools to compete in a series of bowling games designed to promote teamwork, confidence and enjoyment through sport. The students represented their school with great enthusiasm, demonstrating outstanding sportsmanship and determination throughout the challenge. Smiles and cheers filled the bowling alley as everyone celebrated strikes, spares and shared moments of encouragement. Staff praised the event for its positive atmosphere and for giving students the opportunity to develop social and physical skills in a supportive environment. Bernadette, the organiser, and the team were amazing. Steve the DJ, entertained students with a vibrant selection of songs from the students. A staff member remarked, “It was a fantastic experience that allowed our students to shine and be part of something truly special.” Flag Football Before Easter, our Year 9 and 10 girls have been proudly representing the school in an exciting North West flag football event. The journey began with an energising training session that set the tone for the weeks ahead. The event was officially launched at Bolton School, where the girls enjoyed a fantastic day run by the Chicago Bears. Highlights included a live DJ, the chance to meet a Chicago Bears player, and the school receiving brand new flag football kits and equipment - a huge boost for the team! Each week, the girls have developed their skills through competitive fixtures. Their enthusiasm and teamwork have been outstanding, and they’ve truly embraced the spirit of the sport. Looking ahead, we’re excited for our Year 10 students to take on a leadership role by helping train younger students for next year’s event. This will be a wonderful opportunity to pass on their knowledge and passion for flag football. Well done to all the girls involved - your commitment and progress have been inspiring! Cricket Cricket continues to be popular with good numbers regularly turning up to Tuesday night practices, with a particularly strong attendance from our Year 7 students. As usual, we entered the Bolton and Lancashire Cups and had played a good number of matches at the time of sending this to print, assisted by a full half-term of nothing but sun after Easter. Our U12 team enjoyed a superb win against Taheedul School in a last over thriller which booked them a tie in the next round against Canon Slade. Our U13 side have enjoyed a few wins and had reached the quarter final of the Bolton Cup and Lancashire Plate at the time of press. Our U14 and U15 experienced some tough draws in both competitions but competed fantastically in all games with some superb bowling performances especially. It is great to see so many of our students engaging in cricket and even more encouraging to see many of them playing club cricket and representative cricket for their respective interleague and county sides. Additionally, some of our Year 9 and Year 10 cricketers undertook some training with the Lancashire Cricket Foundation to train to be umpires to support our primary school competitions. We took 10 of these leaders to a Year 3 and Year 4 cricket festival at Lostock CC where they were excellent ambassadors for Thornleigh and ran the games smoothly with great confidence!
