Summer Newsletter 2022

7 SUMMER NEWSLETTER 2022 All year the RUAH leaders have been tasked with investigating how our school ethos and values are lived out throughout our community. RUAH stands for Respect, Understanding, Affection and Humour and spells out the Hebrew word for ‘spirit’. Our RUAH values are the spirit of our school and should be clearly visible in everything we do. RUAH LEADERS This year our focus has been on respect. Students used the ‘see, judge, act’ model to explain how respect is shown in our school. Th e most pressing issue for the group was graffiti and how we show respect for our school building. We reflected on how Don Bosco prioritised the physical surroundings of his oratory as being a place where young people should enjoy spending time. We talked to site staff and cleaners about the implications of graffiti and other damage. The RUAH leaders presented their findings to Mr Fitzsimons who invited them to deliver an assembly on the issue. So me of the group even had the chance to represent our school at the Bolton Youth Environment Summit. Here are some of their comments about the event: Loi s - We learnt about the dangers our plants and animals are in. They showed us the effect it is having on animals in Bolton, like hedgehogs and insects. They have inspired us to transform the community we live in. Al essandro - We found out how to make our world more biodiverse. This inspired us to change our school by adding plants and recreating our gardens. Xan der - This event provided us with an insight to others and what they are doing to combat climate change. We have been taught many things from all walks of life, from what to recycle to how we can help hedgehogs! The Youth Council have taken a great idea and turned it into a brilliant event for all ages! Ne xt term we will look at understanding and there are opportunities lined up to visit other Salesian schools and communities in the months ahead. This half term began with a great start as our Year 7 and 8 students partied away at our Neon party! A rranged by some of our Sixth Form students and with the help of staff, our Year 7 and 8s had an evening of party games, dancing, photo booth pictures and so much more. A ll our students had a fantastic time and a big thank you to all the Sixth Form students who helped to put on such a fun event! NEON PARTY
