Summer Newsletter 2022
529 SUMMER NEWSLETTER 2022 HISTORY Follow us @tsc_history HISTORY CLUB In History club this year students have been exploring lots of different topics. We have had some dedicated KS3 students who have been looking at their family ancestry using www. ancestry.com . They have been able to trace back their ancestors over hundreds of years, and have really enjoyed finding out what their family was like in the past. In addition to this, students have labelled life-sized plague victims after doing the Black Death in their History lessons. They topped the year off by designing their own battleships game based on the Spanish Armada. Students were then able to play their games against the teachers and had a really great time putting their games into action. We are looking forward to welcoming new students to History Club in September and have lots of exciting activities planned for next year. PUNCTUATION MAN On Wednesday 6th July, the ‘Punctuation Man’ a.k.a. Barrie McDermid - visited Thornleigh Salesian College to deliver his highly entertaining punctuation workshop to Year 7 and Year 8 students. Bar rie’s show was filled with songs, dances, jokes and quizzes designed to encourage students to remember to use all punctuation. W ith humour in abundance, Barrie had the students howling with laughter but most importantly, they left the performance singing the songs they had learned about punctuation. Ba rrie said it was a pleasure, always, to visit us at Thornleigh. Th ank you to the Year 7 and 8 form tutors for allowing our students to engage in the numeracy challenge once a week, and thanks to Mr Birchby and Mr Fairclough for running the competition. The winning forms will be celebrated on our twitter page @ThornleighMaths in the week before the Summer break. YEAR 11 GCSE EXAM PREPARATION Our Year 11 students sat their GCSE exams this summer and showed amazing dedication to their revision and preparation. Tha nks to the maths staff that gave up a day of their holidays to support our Year 11 students.
