Summer Newsletter 2022
428 SUMMER NEWSLETTER 2022 ROUNDERS There has been great numbers at rounders practices this year which has been brilliant to see. The Summer term has given our teams many opportunities to play against other schools in Bolton with some great performances from all year groups. Our Year 7 and 8 teams have improved well over the term, with this being their first real taste of competitive rounders for school. Both teams have had wins vs. Ladybridge and Westhoughton, with our Year 8s also winning against Bolton School and Canon Slade. Our combined Year 9 and Year 10 team, with a mixture of experienced and new players, has resulted in some really competitive and close games with St. James, Canon Slade and Bolton School and wins against Ladybridge and Sharples. Thi s team had a tough draw in the Bolton Schools tournament but had demonstrated some of the best fielding of the year which helped them to second in their group. Our Year 7s and Year 8s joined forces for the key stage 3 rounders tournament held at Harper Green. It was their first time playing together and the team improved with every match. They got through to the semi-finals as winner of their group, having won 3 out of their 4 games. They played brilliantly in the semi-finals against Bolton School, making it through to the final where they played an excellent match against Canon Slade. It was a really close final, with Thornleigh losing by just 10 runs. All t he girls performed really well and enjoyed the experience of their first tournament. DANCE SHOWCASE Our Dance students thoroughly enjoyed being part of this year’s Dance showcase. Students from our Year 7 and 8 Dance Club, alongside our examination dance students from Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 showcased their hard work and talent to a live audience for the first time since the covid pandemic. Students performed routines from ‘Chicago’ the Musical, ‘Hairspray’ and ‘Teen Beach Movie’, as well as their own choreography linking to a brief from the exam board. We wo uld like to thank all staff, students, parents/carers, families and friends for coming along to support the students who took part in the show. We are already looking forward to next year’s show, as well as future opportunities for our Dance students at Thornleigh. WELL DONE AMELIA!
