Summer Newsletter 2022

420 SUMMER NEWSLETTER 2022 COMPUTER SCIENCE Follow us @_Computing ERASMUS+ PROJECT In April we were delighted to take 5 students from our Creative iMedia Year 10 class to Paris to visit the Paris film school (Don Bosco International Media Academy). This was a fantastic opportunity and as part of the funding we received from the British council; all expenses for the students were paid for! This was a brilliant experience for students who were able to put their learning from the classroom into context with a real film crew. Th e week started with students completing a script read-through to understand the scene they were about to film with two real actors. Students evaluated what the scene would look like, and the emotions before deciding on camera angles, lighting, camera movement and shots. St udents then took part in a location scouting activity to find appropriate locations for the shoot. The highlight of the trip was using the professional film equipment to film the scene and all students were given different roles including camera operator, boom operator, director, lighting engineer, sound mixing engineer, clapper board operator and technical assistants. We were lucky enough to work with two tutors from the film school who gave us workshops looking at script breakdown, costings of movies and the brief editing of a movie. The scene from our film is now currently undergoing final editing before it is released! We have also been part of the creation of 8 tutorials on how to create movies, each tutorial looking at a different aspect of the movie creation and our students were filmed and edited to be part of these tutorials which will soon be available in all Salesian classrooms and we will be using them in our Creative iMedia course. W hilst in Paris the students were also able to take part in a range of cultural experiences including a boat tour along the river Seine, a trip to the Eiffel Tower (and eating crepes!), Arc de Triomphe, Champ Elysees and Montmartre where we had dinner in a French restaurant looking over the square and visiting several Salesian sights in the city. The mornings started with students choosing pastries from a patisserie! As part of the project, we also worked with seven students from a school in Hungary and our students loved learning about their culture and lives. W e are lucky enough to be visiting Paris for a second trip in October 2022 when another 7 students from creative imedia will complete a similar project. We will be choosing students from our new Year 10 creative imedia class in September! If you are starting on the Year 10 creative imedia course in September then be excited! We will be choosing students early in September!
