Our Catholic faith shapes every aspect of our school life, creating a community where every person is welcomed, known and valued. As a Salesian school, we believe education is about far more than academic success. We seek to accompany every student in their growth as learners, as members of society and as a people of hope. Inspired by Don Bosco’s ‘Preventive System’ of presence, reason, religion and loving-kindness, we strive to create a family spirit where all members of our community experience a sense of belonging, encouragement and the opportunity to flourish. Our Catholic life is rooted in four movements that shape everything we do: Encounter - Accompaniment - Formation - Mission We first seek to encounter each student, accompanying them through the challenges and opportunities of school life, forming them intellectually, spiritually and morally. With this as our focus, we then encourage each person to go out on mission, using their gifts in service of others and the wider community. Our relationships are guided by the Salesian values of RUAH - Respect, Understanding, Affection and Humour. These values shape our teaching, pastoral care, leadership and daily interactions, helping to foster a culture of dignity, compassion, responsibility and joy. As a Catholic community we celebrate that richness of our diverse school community. Every person is invited to participate in the life and mission of the school through prayer, service, leadership and the promotion of the common good. Inspired by Catholic Social Teaching, we encourage all members of our community to care for one another, care for creation and become ‘good Christians and honest citizens’. PRAYER AND LITURGY Prayer and Liturgy are at the core of our life at Thornleigh. They are central to our mission of Encounter, Accompaniment, Formation and Mission. They provide opportunities for our whole community to reflect, give thanks, celebrate and grow together. Each school day is punctuated by three shared moments of prayer: morning prayer, grace before lunch and an end of day prayer. These simple but consistent acts of worship invite each member of our school community to pause, reflect and give thanks for God’s presence. Alongside these daily prayers, every year group gathers in our chapel twice each half term for a Celebration of the Word, providing opportunities for deeper reflection led by students and school leadership. Throughout the year, Eucharistic celebrations around the feast days of our school saints take place helping students to deepen their understanding of their tutor group saint and celebrate our Salesian Spirit. Particularly on the feast of St John Bosco. The academic year culminates in Salesian Week, when our whole community celebrates the gifts, achievements and service of our students and staff. Salesian Week brings together everything we seek to foster throughout the year: a community of joy, gratitude, belonging and mission.
