LENT 2022 - ASH WEDNESDAY The Holy Father, Pope Francis had invited the whole world with these words, “I invite everyone to make March 2, Ash Wednesday, a day of fasting for peace. “I encourage believers in a special way to devote themselves intensely to prayer and fasting on that day. May the Queen of Peace preserve the world from the madness of war.” Fo llowing the invitation of Pope Francis, it was made possible for Ash Wednesday to be celebrated as a day of prayer for world peace. Along with Ash Wednesday services for the school community, during lunch time there was exposition of the Blessed Sacrament with a chance to light a candle and to pray for peace. An evening Ash Wednesday Holy Mass was also held in the chapel. Thornleigh chaplaincy is becoming younger and more international with a new addition to the team – Salesian Brother Sixtus joining it. He has come from an experience of working in West Africa to England to share and to learn in his formation to be a Salesian priest. He will be working at the college during this academic year in the Chaplaincy Team. You are most welcome to Thornleigh, Sixtus. T he school community took up the cause immediately to support, to pray and to raise resources for the people who are in this difficult situation. Bolton has a Ukrainian Chaplaincy led by Fr Ewhen Nebesniak, a Salesian priest. We are coordinating our support with the chaplaincy and sending off Shoe Box collections to families in Ukraine. We have also joined the Salesians of the UK in raising funds through just giving. Do join to support the Salesian work in Ukraine. The season of Lent is a time for prayer and reconciliation. T he KS3 students had their opportunity to have a time set apart during the RE lessons to attend the reconciliation service. The whole service was aimed to bring forgiveness of God into our lives, when we forgive others and ourselves. They were all given three simple words to follow in day life: Say please, thank you and sorry. RECONCILIATION SERVICES FOR KS3
