Easter Newsletter 2022

22430 SPRING NEWSLETTER 2022 EXTENDED PROJECT QUALIFICATION Our Year 12 EPQ students have finalised their project titles and are currently working on finding academic and primary research for their independent research projects. Proj ects range from the history of midwifery, how sustainability affects the UK economy, international relations and the economy, to quantum fluctuations and virtual particles. We look forward to seeing how these projects evolve over the coming months! DEBATING MATTERS COMPETITION Our students have the opportunity to represent Thornleigh in the Debating Matters Competition in June and July this year. To pic up for debate include: • “Tech companies should act to stop online misinformation” • “Monuments to controversial historical figures should remain” • “Vaccine passports benefit society” • “In the digital age, we should not expect our online activities to remain private” • “Social egg freezing empowers women” CONVERSATIONAL SPANISH Our students are continuing to develop their conversational Spanish skills in their weekly enrichment class delivered by the MFL department. Students involved in the Sustainability Project trip to Gibraltar are working particularly hard to brush up on their Spanish! PROM Our Prom Committee members have been working hard coming up with ideas to make sure our Year 13 students have the perfect prom. Her e is what our Prom leadership team had to say: “We have managed to secure a date for the Year 13s to have their prom which will be the 24th June starting at 7pm and together have decided to have a black-tie theme with a formal dress code and elegant decorations. All a re welcome to wear their prom dresses or suits from Year 11 if they haven’t had the opportunity to wear them yet. We are in the process of designing posters and tickets which should be available to buy in the coming weeks for £10. We are hoping the £10 will include entry, a welcome drink and food that will be available on the night. The prom committee hopes everyone is keen to come and celebrate with each other after a very stressful year. If anyone has any questions or enquiries feel free to ask Katie N or Cameron W”.
