Easter Newsletter 2022

428 SPRING NEWSLETTER 2022 SIXTH FORM ENRICHMENT PROGRAMME... CHALLENGE, DESIGN, DEVELOP, COMPETE QUESTION, PERFORM, LEAD ARMY RESIDENTIAL TRIP Some of our Sixth Form students have the unique opportunity to attend a free three-day Army residential programme at an Army barracks during the Easter holidays. The activities will include ravine crossing, map reading tasks and bridge-building activities, designed to develop team-work and resilience as well as giving those interested in a career in the Army a taste of Army life. T wo of our Year 12 students attended last year and this is what Nathan T had to say about the experience: “Last summer myself and Max went on a ‘Look at Life’ week in the British Army in Altcar, Liverpool. We took part in many challenging and engaging activities such as evading capture in the hills at night, an assault course and simulated firing ranges to test shooting accuracy. We fully embraced the core values of the British Army during our experience - courage, discipline, respect for others, integrity, loyalty and selfless commitment. It was truly an enriching experience and I very much look forward to attending again at Easter. The food was also very good, it needed to be to give us all of the energy to carry on!”. UKRAINE SHOEBOX APPEAL We are so proud of our Student Leadership Team and the wider Sixth Form students for their proactive support for the Ukraine Appeal. The y have designed posters and donated products and cash to this extremely worthy cause. We will continue to raise much needed funds over the coming days and weeks. MOCK TRIAL COMPETITION Over the past few months our Mock Trial members have been busy preparing for the National Bar Mock Trial Competition and they will finally get to compete against other schools nationally on March 19th. They have been working hard to prepare their arguments for cases involving assault, witness intimidation and possession of illegal weapons and they have recently been briefed about courtroom etiquette and how to be persuasive in court by a Manchester based human rights defence barrister. Our team of prosecution and defence barristers, defendants, witnesses, ushers and clerks look forward to representing Thornleigh Sixth Form.
