Easter Newsletter 2022

19527 SPRING NEWSLETTER 2022 UCAS UPDATE To say that the last couple of years have been unusual would be an understatement! Stud ents in the Sixth Form have had to contend with the uncertainty of whether or not exams would go ahead, as well as the reduction in contact time with lecturers when they went to university; that said, our students made their applications in the usual way and went off to experience the ‘new normal’ over the period of the pandemic. Hopefully, this year will be different, as we get back to something that is beginning to resemble the ‘old normal’! Our students are busily preparing for their exams in the summer, and we have completed this year’s applications for UCAS for students attending university from September 2022. As usual, the majority of the 108 applications are to universities along the M62 corridor and students have offers from Liverpool, Manchester, and Leeds. As in other years, we have students who have looked to universities further afield and we have students with offers from Oxford, Nottingham, Dundee, and Cardiff, to name a few. We have been able to start to visit places that were off limits to us over the last couple of years, and recently took all of our Year 12 to the Central Exhibition Centre in Manchester, where they experienced the UCAS fair, with exhibitions from a range of universities, apprenticeship providers and Conservatoires. A gro up of girls attended a Network Plus company visit during International Women’s Week, to spend time with Cadent looking at the roles and opportunities for women in engineering roles. Ye ar 12s also had the opportunity to meet with professionals from Oxford and Cambridge universities, who gave advice for their applications in the upcoming UCAS application process for students going to university in September 2023.
