42 SPRING NEWSLETTER 2022 COMPUTER SCIENCE Follow us @_Computing We are excited to announce that 5 students have been selected to visit Paris in April. Amelia, Sam, Sam, Brendan and Caylb will visit the Paris Film school to create and edit video. Students will also have the chance to climb the Eiffel tower and visit the sights of Paris. Students will be working with peers from other schools from Hungary and France to create a series of video tutorials linked to their Creative imedia GCSE including script editing, film production, budgeting and video editing. Year 13 students have been using our new Arithmetic and Logic circuit boards provided by Southampton University to create Boolean Arithmetic Calculations. Thi s has been fantastic to help the curriculum to come to life. If you are interested in A Level Computer Science speak to Mr Atkinson. YEAR 13 BOOLEAN LOGIC All students at Thornleigh took part in E-Safety week 2022. Thank you to our Computer Science Ambassadors who helped to create the form time resources for students to watch. E-SAFETY WEEK One of fantastic Year 7 computer science students is entering the Big Bang Competition with his innovative recycling concept. Kian used googles Artificial Intelligent Teachable machine to create a program which can automatically identify if an object is recyclable. Kian then used Spike Robotics to create and program a system which could sort the items after his artificial intelligent system recognises the objects. This is a fantastic achievement from Kian who has huge ambitions to persue a career in technology! BIG BANG COMPETITION Year 7 and 8 students are currently learning how to create apps using AppLab. This is an exciting new unit which has recently been added to the computer science curriculum! Students use a block based programming language to design and create their own working apps. If you would like to know more about app design speak to Mr Atkinson! KS3 APP DESIGN Students in Year 12 have been creating websites for real clients. As par t of their coursework students had to find a client, design and created their website before presenting their new website. They had to include interactive features, security concerns and ensure the website was responsive so that it worked on other devices. H ere is an example of Daniels website!
