Easter Newsletter 2022

422 SPRING NEWSLETTER 2022 GIRLS FOOTBALL This term has seen the return of the Bolton schools girls football tournaments. Year 7 and 8 girls managed to field two teams, the only school in Bolton to do so. The 7-a-side tournament ran over three weeks at Ladybridge High in what were some very cold and rainy conditions. Both teams gave some brilliant performances and showed great levels of team work and resilience throughout, finishing a brilliant 6th overall. KS3 FOOTBALL TEAM The Year 9, 10 and 11 tournament, again, a 7-a-side tournament, was held at Bolton St. Catherines over another three-week period. Our team, made up of Year 9 girls, competed hard against many teams of Year 10s and 11s, with some brilliant results. KS4 FOOTBALL TEAM Bolton Wanderers in the Community spent a day at Thornleigh, solely delivering football sessions to our girls PE classes in Years 8, 9 and 10. They also did a session with the girls who have represented Thornleigh in football this year. It was great to have them in school and the students thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to take part in a tailor-made football session to celebrate girls in football. Over the three weeks, the team was unbeaten, with 5 wins and 4 draws. The girls’ brilliant attitudes paid off and they came a fantastic 2nd overall. Well done to Macy S, Molly B, Erica D, Kacey K, Amelie S, Izzy P, Amelia B, Sadie O and Joelle N! NETBALL Netball has made a return to our extra-curricular activities with the lighter evenings, with over 30 key stage 3 girls attending practices. This t erm, it has been the turn of the Year 9 team’s tournament and Year 8 team’s tournament, competing alongside 13 other schools in Bolton. Year 9 had a difficult draw, coming joint 2nd in their group, only losing two games. The Year 8 girls had some brilliant performances, only losing 1 game in their group and making it through to the semi-finals, a great achievement for their first season playing together! SWIMMING We had excellent representation at Bolton One in the Bolton Swimming Championships with some great performances and even better attitudes. For many students, it was their first time competing for school with some competing against students a year older due to the age categories. We had representatives from Year 7 all the way through to Year 12. Well done to Amy F, Natalya B, Abigail H, Charlotte V, Tabitha H, Naomi T, Harry F, Sam M and Leo T for competing throughout the day. Leo was the 50m freestyle champion which was an incredible achievement given he was competing against students a year older than him!
