Easter Newsletter 2022
420 SPRING NEWSLETTER 2022 BADMINTON This winter saw the welcome return of badminton to our extra-curricular programme. Badminton is an extremely popular activity which many of our students enjoy and is great to see boys and girls working and competing together. We enjoyed lots of practice sessions and loved being back in competitive fixtures against other schools. Our students were really successful, winning the large majority of their fixtures and improving along the way. A highlight of the season was our ‘girl’s only’ fixture against Bolton School where a number of students represented their school for the first time. W e look forward to growing the popularity of the sport again next season. Follow us @tsc_pedance We enjoyed lots of futsal tournaments this winter at Smithills as a change from the larger format of the game. This gave students the chance to demonstrate their skill and look to be as creative as possible. We had lots of teams reach the finals and late stages of each respective age group competition but only the KS4 girls managed to bring home the silverware - well done girls! FUTSAL BASKETBALL Our students have really enjoyed basketball this year and have turned up to practices and tournaments with tremendous enthusiasm. We have enjoyed the new format of tournament basketball, giving our students to experience competitive basketball against a variety of opponents. Lots of students took this up for the first time this year and have demonstrated fantastic potential. If anyone is interested in finding a local basketball team, please speak to one of your PE staff. GREATER MANCHESTER CROSS COUNTRY We were super proud to have three students represent Bolton at the Greater Manchester Cross Country Championships. It was a wet, cold, windy and muddy day at Heaton Park in February, so it had all the ingredients for a perfect cross country day. Isabelle A in Year 7 did superbly in her race, finishing in 41st position whilst Luke W (29th) and Nat K (44th) in Year 8 performed very well, running against students in the year group above them. We were very proud of their achievements. PE
