Little Shop of Horrors - December 2016

This year, Thornleigh Salesian College’s school production on the 7th, 8th and 9th December was based on the classic ‘Little Shop of Horrors’.

Little Shop of Horrors is a horror comedy rock musical, by composer Alan Menken and writer Howard Ashman, about a hapless florist shop worker who raises a plant that feeds on human blood and flesh. The musical is based on the low-budget 1960 black comedy film The Little Shop of Horrors, directed by Roger Corman.

It was difficult to believe that this was merely a school production. The professionalism, time, energy, effort and commitment of the students and staff who were involved was proved on the night, as the audience were blown away. Not one person left their seat without humming the songs, or still laughing at the humour, which was in abundance!

The props and set were phenomenal and matched the quality of the acting, singing and music from all.

Mr Eccleshare, Thornleigh Salesian College’s Coordinator of Music Making, was the star behind the show, the Music Director who worked tirelessly with the students during weeks of rehearsals alongside Beth Eccleshare, a professional Director who also enhanced the experience of the very talented cast.

Beth has produced a number of amateur and professional productions in and around Bolton and further afield, and has really inspired our students to raise their game on stage. We are proud to say that Beth is also a past student of Thornleigh Salesian College, and it is wonderful to see her return to enthuse our current students.

So, after all their hard work, there is only one word to describe the whole production...exceptional!
