Thornleigh's Senior Citizen's Christmas Party 2017

Thornleigh Senior Citizen’s Christmas Party 2017

Four years ago, we invited 50 students to our annual Christmas Party for Senior Citizens in the local area. Yesterday we ran our fourth event, which has swollen to involve 151 Senior Citizens from across the region, from parishes and communities with whom we have developed some incredible relationships. In truth, we could have given three times as many tickets out, but limited physical space meant that we were pretty much at maximum capacity.

With our dramatic growth in numbers come obvious inflated costs. Our students and local community continue to work hard throughout the year fund-raising to ensure that we can host the event, but this year we opened up our fund-raising streams and invited local companies and businesses to support us by sponsoring tables. The response was overwhelming with donations of between £50 and £500 pounds, meaning that we could make this event the best ever! I would like to take this opportunity to thank our generous sponsors, they include:
 3sixty Insurance Brokers
 Absolute Concrete Ltd
 Astley Bridge Blinds
 C!ao Baby
 Clegg’s Chilled Food Service
 Coultons Bread
 Custom
 Lancashire Brick and Tile
 Liverpool Victoria LV=
 Mellors Catering
 Quayside Bakery
 St George For England, Bolton Branch
 Warburton’s

The event started at 2pm in the Sixth Form, although some of our guests arrived 55 minutes early so that they could “get a good seat!” (They’ve obviously been before!) After an hour and a half of phenomenal entertainment from our students, we descended into the canteen for a four-course meal with champagne and Christmas entertainment from our music department, staff choir and the return of our world-famous magician Lorenzo Carcione for another spectacular performance. We ended with a free raffle and most guests left with a gift. However, every guest left with a box of chocolates and a card from their table sponsors and one of our students.

A fabulous event enjoyed by all and soon to be repeated (once we’ve had 11 months rest!)
